Mary's Sugar Cookie - - RolledThis is the recipe we grew up on, from the original 1963 Betty Crocker "Cooky Book." They are a roll and cut cookie made with powder sugar.
1 ½ cups powder sugar 1 cup margarine 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla ½ tsp. almond flavoring 2 ½ cups flour 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. cream of tarter Preheat oven 375. Mix sugar and margarine. Add the egg and flavorings then mix thoroughly. Stir dry ingredients and blend in. Dough may be refrigerated 2-3 hours. Divide dough in half and roll 3/16” thick on lightly floured surface. Cut with cookie cutter then sprinkle with sugar. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7-8 minutes, or until just slightly golden brown around edges. If frosting cookies- do not sprinkle with sugar. Here is a link to Elaine Eldridge's Butter Cream Frosting. Yummy! |
