Orange BreadThis is my sister Robin's favorite - another recipe from mom.
Put orange peel in saucepan, add water to cover and boil till tender. Add sugar and boil to medium syrup then cool. Sift together dry ingredients. Cream butter, ¾ cup sugar, eggs. Add milk alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Beat with mixer at medium speed for 4 minutes. Remove from mixer and add cooled orange peel and syrup. Beat by hand at least 1 minute until well mixed. Put into 2 greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut slit lengthwise in top of loaf return to oven reduced to 300 degrees and bake another 20-25 minutes. |
