This merit winner recipe was featured in Beta Sigma Phi Sweet Endings Cookbook 2006. It's delicious and crafted to be lighter in calories than the original version.
Whisk the cold water, condensed milk and pudding mix in a bowl. Chill covered with plastic wrap, for 30 minutes or until firm. Add the cream cheese and mix well. Fold in the whipped topping.
Combine the hot water, liqueur (Kahlua) and espresso powder in a bowl. (I used instant coffee) Stir until the coffee dissolves.
Arrange 16 ladyfinger halves in the bottom of a trifle bowl (I found ladyfingers at Safeway bakery). Drizzle with one-third of the espresso mixture and spread with one-third of the pudding mixture. Dust each layer with 1 TBS baking cocoa. Repeat layers 2 more times.
Chill, covered, for 8 hours or longer. I made mine the morning before. Yield = 12 servings
