Heat oven to 325. Grease and flour square pan. Mix sugar, shortening and egg thoroughly. Blend in molasses and water. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method (or sift). Stir together dry ingredients; blend in. Beat until smooth. Pour into pan. Bake 45 – 50 minutes in square pan. Serve hot cut into squares or wedges with whipped cream. 9 servings.
