For recipes that measure by weight, you will need a good kitchen scale.  This on is what I use and it's a great design.

Schwarz Weiss Kuchen

This is an authentic German recipe for Schwarz Weiss Kuchen (Black & White Cake Loaf). It's delicious and very similar to Starbucks' Black & White Loaf. 


Ingredients: 
  • 300 grams butter 
  • 1 vanilla stick (bean)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 280 grams sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 300 grams flour
  • 70 grams ground almonds
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • butter to grease the pan


Instructions:
  1. Beat the butter, the scraped out vanilla bean, salt and sugar in a mixer until fluffy. 
  2. Add the eggs, one at a time, while continuing to beat the mixture.
  3. Mix flour with almonds, and baking powder, and add to the butter mixture. 
  4. Stir the cocoa powder into the oil. 
  5. Divide the butter mixture into two equal parts. Color one half with the cocoa/oil mixture. 
  6. Pour half of each mixture into the pan beside the other, and then add the second layer alternating the color pattern. Lightly pull a spoon through the mixture. 
  7. Bake at 350 Fahrenheit (175 Celsius) for about 50 to 60 minutes.
  8. Decorate as desired with powdered sugar glaze and orange zest strips.
