The Perfect "Old Fashioned" Syrup

2/3 cup of sugar
two ounces of distilled water (trust me, get distilled)
1.5 ounces of Angostur bitters (yes, 1.5 ounces)
1.5 ounces of Orange bitters (yes, 1.5 ounces -- it's not a misprint)

Stir over low heat in heavy-bottomed saucepan until sugar is completely dissolved. 

Pour into the coolest bottle you can find, cap and store in your refrigerator. 

That's your magical Old Fashioned Cocktail syrup. 

Ready to make a drink? Great! Let's go. 
Grab a lowball glass. Add a craft ice cube (yes, those big trendy round or square cubes). Add it to your glass. 
Add a shot (1.5 ounces) of QUALITY Bourbon. Add a Luxardo cherry (yes, the brand matters).  Add a teaspoon of cherry juice from the Luxardo container. Add 1 Tablespoon of the Old Fashioned Syrup mix you just made and bottled. Add a squirt of Splenda Zero liquid sweetener (optional, but trust me -- folks love this and want the recipe). Zest (over your glass) an inch wide slice of fresh orange peel (no pith) and add to the glass. Stir and serve. 

Yes, folks will LOVE this recipe. If you get someone who doesn't like the sweetness, just skip the Splenda Zero. But if folks don't see you do this, they'll NEVER complain. Seriously. You're welcome.
